How an authorized decryption engagement should work

Bespoke decryption is not a self-service upload. It is a scoped professional engagement involving sensitive material, uncertain technical work and explicit authority.

Qualification and authority

The requesting party describes the media, encryption, objective and legal basis. Ownership or lawful authority must be documented before archive material is accepted.

Secure intake

Physical media or encrypted transfers are handled under an agreed chain of custody. The received material is inventoried and integrity measurements are recorded. Work should normally occur on verified copies rather than the only original.

Assessment and milestones

The first technical stage establishes media readability, implementation details and the plausible recovery routes. Later stages should have budgets, compute limits and stop conditions agreed in advance.

Controlled release

Recovered plaintext is more sensitive than the encrypted source. It should be minimized to the requested outcome, verified, delivered only to approved recipients and retained or destroyed according to the engagement terms.
